Royal Canadian Mint to host events in Whitehorse

OTTAWA, Aug. 21, 2015 /CNW/ - The Royal Canadian Mint will host the following two events in Whitehorse:

Monday, August 24, 2015
The Mint will unveil a new silver collector coin celebrating Canada's Northern Lights at 10:30 a.m. at the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre, located at 1171-1st Avenue (media are requested to arrive at 10:15 a.m.).  The following will participate in the coin unveiling:

Ms. Sandra Hanington, President and CEO of the Royal Canadian Mint
Chief Doris Bill, Kwanlin Dün First Nation
Chief Kristina Kane, Ta'an Kwäch'än First Nation
The Honourable Elaine Taylor, Deputy Premier, Yukon Territorial Government
His Worship Dan Curtis, Mayor of the City of Whitehorse

The Mint will host a free program of activities for the public from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at the Mt. McIntyre Recreation Centre (Grey Mountain Room), located at 1 Sumanik Drive.  Activities will include:

  • A coin exchange for the 2015 quarters celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Canadian flag;
  • Displays for the public to hold medals from the Toronto 2015 Pan Am/Para Pan Am Games and the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games;
  • An inside look at what goes on at the Mint through exclusive videos; and
  • Draws to win the Mint's newest collector coins
