Report recognizes the top companies that are making Canada a better place to live and work
TORONTO, June 10 /CNW/ - Nokia is being recognized as one of the top 50 most socially responsible corporations in Canada by an annual report by Jantzi-Sustainalytics in partnership with Maclean's Magazine. Nokia is being recognized as a result of its large-scale efforts to empower positive environmental and social changes through its products, services and operations.
"Both globally and locally, Nokia is committed to giving back to the community in impactful ways and reducing the environmental and social impact of its products through constant innovation and responsible business practices and operations," said Richard White, General Manager of Nokia Canada. "Nokia is proud to have been recognized in the Jantzi-Sustainalytics and Maclean's list of the Top 50 Socially Responsible Corporations in Canada, because being a good corporate citizen is something Nokia strives to do every day and in every capacity of its business."
Some of Nokia's socially and environmentally responsible business initiatives include:
- The 'Progress Project,' which combines innovation and mobile
technology in an effort to enrich lives, communities and the world at
large. Nokia Life Tools, a range of agricultural and educational
services, designed especially for people in small towns and rural
areas in emerging economies, bridges the digital divide by empowering
them with direct access to information via mobile phones.
- While Nokia does not purchase raw materials directly, the company is
recognized as taking clear responsibility as a leading manufacturer
to promote environmental and social improvement to conditions in its
supply chain and proactively promotes legal and ethical material
sourcing as an absolute priority.
- Membership in the Global e-Sustainability Initiative and
participation in the Supply Chain Working Group.
The Top 50 Socially Responsible Corporations in Canada were selected on the basis of their performance across a broad range of environmental, social, and governance indicators tracked by Jantzi Research.
