First Canadian Place Gallery Presents Canadian Artist, Photographer and Videographer Elaine Waisglass Speaking on Creative Process behind "The Beauty of Life" Exhibition Opening This Week
Lunchtime "Walk and Talk" Series on Thursday, May 1 from 12:15 p.m.-1 p.m. and 1:15 p.m.-2 p.m.
TORONTO, April 30, 2014 /CNW/ - On the occasion of her exhibition "The Beauty of Life", First Canadian Place Gallery presents Elaine Waisglass: Meet the Artist Walkabout Tour and Photography Exhibition, a behind-the-scenes tour with artist and videographer Elaine Waisglass of her photo-based artworks and videos, in two lively lunch-hour conversations with art writer Betty Ann Jordan.
With a background in visual art, Waisglass has enjoyed a distinguished career as a videographer and producer while seriously pursuing her avocation for period landscape gardening and historic-house restoration. The Lunchtime Talk Series will spotlight the motivation and process behind her lyrical short videos and the painterly super-real still-lifes in this exhibition. Waisglass will also compare and contrast Victorian notions of beauty steeped in artisanal values with the output of a resolutely 21st century artist deploying the latest digital "painting" tools. Painterly beauty and the beauty of nature will be a recurring subject as Waisglass reflects on aesthetics guru John Ruskin's adage: "Every good piece of art. . .involves first essentially the evidence of human skill, and the formation of an actually beautiful thing by it."
"The Beauty of Life" is on display in the First Canadian Place Gallery until June 20, 2014, by appointment only. This exhibition is presented as a part of Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival, a month-long celebration of photography and the largest photography festival in the world.
