Davie and Aecon announce cooperation agreement
PICTOU, NS, Oct. 27, 2014 /CNW/ - Chantier Davie Canada Inc. and Aecon Atlantic Inc. announced today the signing of a cooperative agreement to work on marine-related projects.
The agreement includes the following elements:
- Combine fabrication capacities to increase speed and cost of delivery for major marine commercial and naval programs;
- Use a modern production/assembly approach by producing and assembling ship sections at multiple sites;
- Provide greater geographical reach and flexibility for joint programs;
- Skills and knowledge sharing on joint programs.
Aecon Atlantic's fabrication facility is based in Pictou, Nova Scotia and possesses high-volume fabrication capacities, marine facilities and a diverse base of local subcontractors. Davie is based in Lévis, Quebec and is Canada's largest and most established shipbuilder.
Alan Bowen, CEO of Davie, commented on the new partnership: "On our existing newbuild programs at Davie, we have built entire ship sections at six third-party facilities for assembly at Davie. This modern production methodology, which ensures a faster and therefore more cost-effective program delivery, is what allows us to compete internationally in the ship export market. Aecon Atlantic Pictou Shipyard facility is well-placed to provide support on our current and future newbuilding and repair programs. We are already working with Aecon, who are a key subcontractor to Davie on its existing newbuilding program."
Teri McKibbon, President and Chief Executive Officer of Aecon Group Inc., added, "What Davie has achieved over the past few years is incredibly impressive. The projects we are engaged with them on play to our core skills and we look forward to working together."
