MONTREAL, Sept. 30 /CNW Telbec/ - Aluminum producer Alcoa Canada and the firm Hatch Ltd. are proud to announce that they are jointly offering a $10,000 grant to Centraide of Greater Montréal for its 2010 fundraising campaign. This grant is awarded as part of the 10th anniversary of the Alcoa-Hatch Alliance, a strategic partnership that taps into the respective forces of the two organizations.
"The support of the Alcoa-Hatch Alliance has greatly contributed to the success of Alcoa's aluminum smelters in the course of the past 10 years," declared Pierre Morin, President of Alcoa Canada. "Beyond a common corporate vision, we also share a fundamental value: community service. This grant will allow the Alliance to leave a tangible footprint in the community."
"We are proud to be Alcoa Canada's preferred supplier in project management services, and to thus enable Alcoa to maintain its position as world leader in the production of aluminum," added Kurt Strobele, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Hatch Ltd. "Since Centraide represents a common cause for Alcoa Canada and Hatch, this grant will drive our cooperation even further for the benefit of people in need." Note that in addition to this grant, both organizations, who have been supporting Centraide for several years, are once again holding fundraising campaigns for Centraide among their employees in 2010.
"We are pleased that celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Alcoa-Hatch Alliance is also an opportunity to contribute to the well-being of the Montreal community by promoting mutual aid and solidarity", explains Michèle Thibodeau-DeGuire, President and Executive Director, Centraide of Greater Montreal. "Considering how generous Alcoa and Hatch employees are year after year, adding this special grant of $10,000 will have a significant impact."
The Alcoa-Hatch Alliance was created in 2000, when Alcoa Canada chose Hatch as a choice partner for project management with a view to standardizing and optimizing its plant methods. The Alliance rests on close cooperation between Alcoa's specialists, who focus on the smooth running of operations linked to aluminum, and the Hatch team, a group that ensures efficient investment management, the implementation of customized and tested methods, and stringent project follow-up. In addition to the four Alcoa smelters located in Québec, the Alcoa-Hatch Alliance covers Alcoa's facilities in Massena (N.Y.) and the Fjardaál plant in Reydarfjordur, Iceland.
Since its inception, the Alliance has brought to fruition over 400 projects requiring investments of around $400 million. Outcomes include an important increase in production capacity, the elimination of over 1,800 health and safety hazards, as well as substantial input leading to Alcoa's enviable performance in terms of air emission control, energy efficiency, and wastewater treatment.
During the month of September, Pierre Morin and Martin Desmeules, Global Director, Aluminum, marked this 10th anniversary with the Alliance's teams, and thanked the employees, suppliers and entrepreneurs for the successful projects brought to life. After ten years, the two partners of the Alcoa-Hatch Alliance are more than satisfied with the territory they've chartered. This grant to Centraide only adds a new dimension to their unparallelled synergy.
