CALGARY, AB, Sept. 22, 2026 /CNW/ -- ATB Cormark Capital Markets, leading North American investment firm and the capital markets arm of ATB Financial, hosted its Fall 2026 Energy Institutional Investor Conference in New York City on September 10, 2026. The event brought together 14 leading Canadian oil and gas producers, representing aggregate enterprise value of more than $100 billion, and institutional investors for discussions on capital allocation, natural gas market diversification, operational execution and the outlook for commodity markets.
The conference also featured a lunch panel with Jeff Currie, founder of Real Macro and former Global Head of Commodities at Goldman Sachs, who shared his view that constrained investment in major commodity projects could support a structural commodity supercycle extending into the 2030s.
"Our Energy Institutional Investor Conference is designed to create direct, informed dialogue between Canadian energy leaders and the global investment community," said Darren Eurich, CEO of ATB Cormark Capital Markets. "This year's discussions focused on how companies are balancing disciplined capital allocation with changing market conditions and new sources of demand. Canadian producers continue to adapt their strategies while maintaining a strong focus on execution and shareholder returns."
Key discussions included:
- Capital allocation remains central to the investment case. Investors focused on how management teams are balancing production growth with dividends and share repurchases amid a volatile commodity-price environment.
- Natural gas producers are prioritizing market access and diversification. Out-of-basin egress, LNG exposure and premium international pricing arrangements were key areas of interest as companies work to reduce exposure to localized pricing pressure.
- Consolidation continues to shape the Canadian energy landscape. Participants expect M&A activity to continue as companies pursue scale, lower cost structures and high-quality inventory in core plays such as the Montney and Clearwater.
- Technology and infrastructure are supporting execution. Producers highlighted completion advances, including open-hole multilaterals and extended laterals, alongside investments in processing and gathering infrastructure to improve capital efficiency, well productivity and growth capacity.
- New demand vectors are emerging for Canadian gas. Several producers are exploring non-traditional demand opportunities, including potential power-supply arrangements with hyperscale data centres, to improve in-basin pricing and support longer-term demand.
"The conversations in New York reflected an industry that is pairing financial discipline with greater focus on where and how to invest for growth," added Patrick O'Rourke, Managing Director of Institutional Research, Exploration & Production, ATB Cormark Capital Markets. "Investors are looking closely at the balance between returns and growth, as well as the importance of market access, infrastructure control and operational innovation. For Canadian producers, maintaining flexibility remains important as commodity markets and sources of demand evolve."
