National Resilience Day™ recognizes something virtually every Canadian experiences: a moment when life changes without warning.
Serious illness. The death of someone we love. Caregiving. Disability. Divorce. Job loss. Financial upheaval. Wildfire, flood or another disaster.
Life can suddenly divide into before and after. National Resilience Day™ asks: What happens next?
"Resilience is not something we should have to build alone," said Allen S. Lycka, founder of the When Life Changes Everything™ National Resilience Initiative. "September 24 is an opportunity for Canadians to reach out, support one another and remind people facing difficult change that they can move forward."
Canadians are being asked to:
- SIGN -- Support the House of Commons petition recognizing September 24 as National Resilience Day™.
- SHARE -- Invite family, workplaces, organizations and communities to participate.
- CELEBRATE -- Perform an Act of Resilience™ on September 24 by helping someone facing an unexpected life change.
An Act of Resilience™ can be as simple as checking on someone, supporting a caregiver, encouraging someone returning after illness, helping a neighbour through job loss, thanking a first responder or saying, "You do not have to move forward alone."
The national goal is 1,000,000 Acts of Resilience™.
Brooks, Alberta became the first community to proclaim September 24 as National Resilience Day™.
"Brooks took the first step. Now it is our turn," Lycka said. "Imagine one million Canadians reaching out to help another person move forward."
