SAINT-LAURENT, QC, June 4, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - In cooperation with Ville de Montréal's Bureau du design, the borough of Saint-Laurent today announced the winner of the competition to design and produce a video projection within the "Saint-Laurent in motion" project, which has been organized to promote Saint-Laurent and its assets. From among the video concepts submitted by the three teams of finalists, the jury selected the proposal by Elizabeth Laferrière and Sarah Ouellet.
"We are delighted to give budding designers a chance to showcase their talents and vitality," stated Saint-Laurent Mayor Alan DeSousa. "This dazzling, festive video projection will relate Saint-Laurent's history, from a modern, entertaining perspective. Starting June 14, residents and workers will discover Saint-Laurent in a different way, through this video projection and the range of tools developed by the Borough—and in particular, a mobile application and a tourist map."

Jury President Mouna Andraos made a point of emphasizing the excellent the work done by all the competition participants who willingly delved into Saint-Laurent's world to propose all kinds of visions of the Borough. "As for the winning proposal, it succeeded in combining the historical and factual content with a very contemporary, entertaining approach. The proposed picturizations are bound to stimulate the imagination of young and old as well as people's conversations about the neighbourhood's past and future. The winners also showed a good understanding of the challenges involved in carrying out such a project on the front façade of the church. In addition, their proposal stood out for the simple, effective visual and graphic solutions they put forward, taking into account the substantial constraints of the project."
The winners: Elizabeth Laferrière and Sarah Ouellet
A native of Montréal, Elizabeth Laferrière graduated from UQAM with a Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, which included training at ESAG Penninghen in Paris. Self-employed since 2008, she plays with typography, collage and video and hopes to eventually get more involved in stage design and to develop a more global approach there. Her thirst for learning prompts her to collaborate on more and more projects. A lover of the arts, with a resolutely daring spirit, Elizabeth Laferrière drifts from project to project, always with the same objective: to relate stories.
A multidisciplinary designer born in Québec City, Sarah Ouellet works as a freelancer while studying for her Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design at UQAM. Always exploring and experimenting, she works in both the fashion and restaurant industries. Her perspective of the world is sometimes fun-filled and abstract, where movement is at the heart of a border-free approach. With her tremendous drive and passion, she undertakes each project with the conviction that she has to start out by going in the opposite direction of her initial idea.
Presented in the historical and heritage neighbourhood of Vieux-Saint-Laurent, the 10-minute video will be projected on the front façade of Église Saint-Laurent every evening this summer, at 9 p.m. and 9:15 p.m.
An exhibition of the participations' proposals will run until June 14 on the parvis of Église Saint-Laurent, 805 avenue Sainte-Croix, as well as at the Centre des loisirs, 1375 rue Grenet. MULTIDISCIPLINARY COMPETITION
This competition—with its open, transversal approach—involved two phases and targeted multidisciplinary teams in order to help develop new cultural and artistic practices. A total of eight proposals were submitted and seven were accepted for further consideration.

To showcase the Borough's heritage, historical, cultural, natural and urban assets and to promote active transportation, Saint-Laurent's Administration organized the "Saint-Laurent in motion" project. Through this initiative, residents will have the opportunity to interactively explore Saint-Laurent on their own, through various tourism tools, including a historical video projection, a mobile application and a tourist map and by taking part in numerous activities.
