President Bill Clinton and Frank Giustra to Host CGSGI Event in Toronto
Clinton Giustra Sustainable Growth Initiative to Launch Sustainable
Development Projects in Latin America
NEW YORK, Feb. 29 /CNW/ - Former U.S. President Bill Clinton and Frank
Giustra, president of the Radcliffe Foundation, will host a special evening in
support of the Clinton Giustra Sustainable Growth Initiative (CGSGI) this
Saturday, March 1, 2008, at the Westin Harbour Castle Convention Centre.
Established by Bill Clinton and Frank Giustra in June 2007, the Clinton
Giustra Sustainable Growth Initiative is an innovative partnership between the
Clinton Foundation, the private sector, governments, local communities and
NGOs created to increase the effectiveness, impact, scale and sustainability
of social and economic development efforts in countries where the natural
resource industries are an important part of the economy.
The Clinton Giustra Sustainable Growth Initiative focuses its efforts in
Latin America and other parts of the developing world. It will identify
opportunities to assist local leaders in addressing social, economic, and
environmental issues through sustainable and scalable economic development
projects with an emphasis on long term job creation and income generation. The
goal of CGSGI is to help alleviate poverty in the developing world and the
Initiative will build on the Clinton Foundation's successful record of
implementing similar development initiatives worldwide.
There are over 2,000 listed mining companies around the world with a
combined estimated market capitalization in excess of $1 million. CGSGI will
work with companies, governments, and non-governmental organizations to
strengthen health, education, and other basic services and grow local
businesses that create jobs and increase incomes in communities in which
mining operations exist, to help sustain local prosperity and growth long
after mines are closed. Frank Giustra has pledged a minimum of $100 million to
the effort, as well as one half of all of his future earnings from his work in
the natural resources sector.
