Media Advisory - Exciting season of Doors Open Ontario events ahead!

    TORONTO, April 2 /CNW/ - Doors Open Ontario 2009 kicks off on April 25
with an event in Guelph. This year, visitors will have the chance to explore
heritage buildings, architectural showpieces and community landmarks at 48
events across the province.
    Six of the events in 2009 are new. Lake of Bays, Richmond Hill, Minden,
East Elgin, Milton and St. Thomas have all joined the program. Another
highlight to watch for this season is the binational event in Niagara,
featuring sites in both Ontario and Western New York.
    Attached is a Doors Open Ontario 2009 calendar, listing participating

    Each year, hundreds of historic buildings, natural spaces and heritage
gardens, some of which are rarely accessible to the public - open free of
charge as part of Doors Open Ontario. Since the program began in 2002, nearly
three million visits have been made to heritage sites during community events.
    Sponsors of Doors Open Ontario 2009 include: The Globe and Mail, Vale
Inco, the Ministry of Culture, the Ontario Tourism Marketing Partnership
Corporation and all the participating communities. New this year, visitors can
enter the Doors Open Ontario 2009 Digital Photo Contest, sponsored by Henry's.
    Doors Open Ontario is a program of the Ontario Heritage Trust. The Trust
also coordinates Trails Open Ontario, with support from the Government of
Ontario. Information on this year's Trails Open Ontario events will be
available soon at www.heritagetrust.on.ca.
