TORONTO, March 21 /CNW/ - After only 23 months on the air, Canada's BITE
Television has been nominated for an International Emmy(R) in the Interactive
Channel category. If BITE were to take the coveted award, it would be the
first Canadian company to win an Emmy in the Interactive Channel category.
"While we are still a very young company, it's great to be
internationally recognized. This caps off a stellar year for BITE," says
President and CEO Jeffrey Elliott.
The Emmy nod rounds out an unprecedented quarter for BITE. The digital
channel recently announced a groundbreaking distribution deal with JOOST. Last
week, BITE finalized an agreement with Amp'd Mobile to provide signature
short-form content offerings to the wireless network supplier. Elliott says,
"These agreements are significant steps forward, giving BITE a foot-hold in
the international market."
Every day, more than 2,500 programming elements are distributed via a
hybrid of media outlets that span a variety of genres. BITE's content is a
blend of user-generated, acquired and in-house productions that are sexy, edgy
and irreverent. BITE serves up a fast-paced package in a style all its own -
three-to five-minute shows, peppered with non-traditional advertising. It's
about instant gratification, innovation and the best entertainment for BITE's
18-34 year old male audience.
"BITE was built from the ground-up with interactivity and content
delivery across multiple platforms," says Elliott. The conception of BITE was
not simply a response to the massive swing in media, technology and
broadcasting. At a time when many broadcasters are reaching to patch new
platforms into the mix, BITE has established itself as a visionary having
fused web, TV and mobile into a seamless entertainment engine atop a 'new
media' foundation. There are no silos at BITE.
Launched in April 2005, BITE Television is located in Mississauga
Ontario. BITE is available on Rogers Channel 322, Cogeco Channel 123,
Videotron Channel 170 and Telus TV 186, all major wireless carriers in Canada
and at www.bitetv.ca.
