York University Graduate student Association (GSA) are pleased to hear that
The Metropolitan Action Committee on Violence against Women and Children
(METRAC) has been appointed as the External Safety auditor for York
"Students are excited that the University has finally responded to our
call for this type of action. Since the first two sexual assaults occurred at
the beginning of the 2007-2008 academic year, the YFS and the GSA have been
working alongside students and community members to pressure the
administration to hire an external safety auditor such as METRAC," said Gilary
Massa, Vice-President External of the YFS.
METRAC is a not-for-profit, community-based organization that works to
ensure women, youth, and children live free from all forms of violence and the
threat or fear of violence. METRAC will work at arms lengths to the York
University administration on a safety audit that will seek to identify, and
find solutions to all individual, institutional, and systemic forms of

the Keele Campus of York University. We are optimistic that this audit will
help us identify the very important institutional changes for our campus,"
Both the YFS and GSA look forward to working closely with METRAC to
ensure that they are active participants in the safety audit.
