York Region viva Bus Rapid Transit wins Tri-Committee IT Project of the Year Award, to be presented at 24th Annual Symposium

MISSISSAUGA, ON, Oct. 16 /CNW/ - The Tri-Committee for the Utilization of
Information Technology in Public Works is presenting the inaugural Information
Technology Project of the Year Award to York Region for their submission
entitled "Deploying Technology on viva Bus Rapid Transit in York Region." The
presentation will be made at the 24th Annual Symposium on November 1 at the
Mississauga Convention Centre. Her Worship Mayor Hazel McCallion, City of
Mississauga, has been invited as the keynote speaker.
The day long symposium entitled "Beyond the Technology" will feature
presentations, guest speakers and vendor exhibits. "This year's theme is
designed to look past technology and explore the anticipated and sometimes
unanticipated benefits that technological applications bring to public works,"
notes Ben Afnan, the Symposium's Chair.
This symposium will provide a municipal perspective on industry issues
such as knowledge transfer, the use of data, expert systems, and information
resource management, and is a great opportunity to hear about techniques,
strategies, solutions and product innovations regarding IT applications for
Public Works.

The Tri-Committee is a standing committee of the Ontario Good Roads
Association, the Municipal Engineers Association, and the Ontario Public Works
Association, that promotes the development and use of information technology
in municipal public works.
