TORONTO, April 21 /CNW/ - Elementary public school teachers, members of
the York Region Elementary Teacher Local of the Elementary Teachers'
Federation of Ontario (ETFO), reached a tentative collective agreement with
the York Region District School Board today following a lengthy bargaining
York Region is the second largest ETFO teacher local in Ontario and the
ninth teacher local to reach a tentative four-year agreement.
"My takeover team has been working around the clock to get this deal.
Today's result is an agreement that provides real progress on the working
conditions and benefits issues that the members of the local identified as
their priorities," said ETFO President David Clegg.
"This is a good deal for my members. The improvements in working
conditions that we achieved today will create a less stressful and more
productive working environment for York Region elementary teachers. This is
the kind of working environment that will benefit student learning for years
to come," said Nadia Ciacci, President of the ETFO York Region Elementary

The York Region Elementary Teacher Local represents approximately 4,300
public elementary school teachers. Their last contract expired August 31,
The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario represents 73,000
