Interactive format combines reading, online gaming, and card
collecting with first book by best-selling author Rick Riordan
Movie rights to The 39 Clues(TM) series have been acquired by DreamWorks
TORONTO, Sept. 4 /CNW/ - Rick Riordan, the multi-award-winning author of
the bestselling Percy Jackson series, is the author of the first book in this
exciting new multi-platform global publishing program from Scholastic. Set for
a simultaneous international launch, The 39 Clues(TM) series promises to treat
readers to a multi-dimensional 21st century reading experience! The 39
Clues(TM) Book One: The Maze of Bones will be in stores September 9th.
It starts with a story:
What would happen if you discovered that your family was one of the most
powerful in human history? What if you were told that the source of your
family's power was hidden around the world, in the form of 39 Clues?
At the reading of their grandmother's will, Dan and Amy Cahill discover
just that. After hearing this shocking information they are also handed a
choice - take a million dollars and walk away from this deep, dark family
secret... or get the first Clue and begin an international search for the
rest. Their choice takes them on the adventure of a lifetime - and the most
dangerous race against strangers, who are also... family. The hunt is on...
Then we go beyond the book:
- Each reader is invited to visit www.the39clues.com, the interactive
website, to become a character, join the search and compete for
prizes! The online game goes live on September 9, 2008.
- $100,000 in prizes will be awarded to winning participants of the
online game portion. There are many chances to win as the 10-book
series unfolds over the next two years.
- Rick Riordan, who authored The Maze of Bones and who outlined the
program's 10-book story arc, will be followed by a team of best-
selling and acclaimed authors, including Gordon Korman,
Peter Lerangis, Jude Watson and Patrick Carman. Readers can expect
subsequent titles, which will continue the adventure of
Amy and Dan Cahill, in bookstores every three months.
- Each book contains collectible cards which will reveal more
information about the Clues and enhance the reading and online
components! Additional card packs are also sold separately
(The 39 Clues(TM) Card Pack No.1, $7.99), wherever the books are
- DreamWorks Studios has acquired the movie rights from Scholastic
