World's Largest Pet Adoption Drive Brightens the Holidays for Canadian Four-Legged friends

Iams Home 4 the Holidays Partners with Pet Adoption Organizations
Worldwide to Help Bring People and Pets Together

TORONTO, Nov. 26 /CNW/ - The world's largest pet adoption drive, Iams
Home 4 the Holidays (IH4TH) has launched across Canada, and aims to find
lifelong homes for more than 400,000 pets this holiday season. The campaign,
which runs through January 3, 2008, is powered by over 2,600 animal shelters
worldwide and to date has placed more than 1.5 million pets. This year,
70 Canadian shelters are participating in the program, which is more than
double the 31 shelters in 2004.
"Pet adoption brings the Iams mission of pet well-being to life," said
Alan Rego, Iams Canada, P&G Pet Care. "In North America, as many as 5 million
dogs and cats are euthanized every year. It's our mission to work hard to make
an impact, and help reduce that number here in Canada and through a program
like Iams Home 4 the Holidays, that's possible."
Iams Home 4 the Holidays began in the U.S. in 1999 when the Helen
Woodward Animal Center (Rancho Santa Fe, California) and Iams partnered to
raise awareness of the number of animals in shelters and educate the public
about the goals established to help save their lives.
"For families and individuals who have given pet adoption serious
thought, we are thrilled to be able to give them the opportunity to bring joy
into their homes this holiday season," said Mr. Rego. "We have found that
adoptions through animal shelters are extremely successful, especially during
the holiday season not only because shelters are able to match people with the
right pets but also because of the support networks available for new pet
Every person or household who adopts a pet through the program will
receive an Iams adoption kit filled with helpful information about pet health
and nutrition, tips to ensure a successful adoption and ways to help make a
new dog or cat's first few days in their new home even better.
