EDMONTON, March 10 /CNW/ - Leading professionals in the heavy oil
industry convene in Edmonton at the World Heavy Oil Congress beginning today
to promote heavy oil technology development, foster relationships between
supply and demand countries, educate industry personnel on unconventional
approaches and environmental sustainability, and network with colleagues from
around the globe.
More than 800 Congress delegates are expected to attend the three day
Congress - the world's premier international technical and business conference
and exhibition specializing in the heavy oil industry. Of these 800 delegates,
more than 30 per cent are from international countries including China,

"We are excited about the response we have received regarding the event
being hosted in Edmonton. For many, Alberta lies at the very heart of the
heavy oil industry," said Simon Mellor, Commercial and Business Director, dmg
world media. "Registration numbers exceeded expectations and we are also
thrilled with the caliber of speakers in both the Business Conference and
Technical Conference. Attendees will hear presentations from top industry
leaders and we are pleased to welcome the Honourable Rafael Ramirez Carreno,
President of PDVSA and Venezuela's Minister of Energy and Petroleum for a
special presentation at one of our social events."
This year's Congress mandate is "Unconventional Oil Challenging
Conventional Expectations." Key topics are environmental sustainability,
sustainable development, technological advances and processes. The business
conference will address the theme "the challenges of managing success" from
both an environmental and social perspective.
