Where there is change there is opportunity

CAFA members can assist your farm enterprise

WINNIPEG, Dec. 4 /CNW/ - The Canadian Association of Farm Advisors (CAFA)
in partnership with the Canadian Farm Business Management Council and
Saskatchewan Agrivision Corporation Inc. are taking the Agricultural Change &
Opportunity workshop to farm advisors and farmers in Red Deer on February 6,
2008, to provide the important information needed to recognize future
opportunities for the province's agricultural sector.
At no time in history has the evolution in agricultural been so rapid and
dramatic. Canada's west has gone from being the breadbasket of the world to
one which is facing a serious crisis in its livestock sector and competition
from lower cost grain producers from a number of countries around the world.
Canada has clearly become too dependent on one customer, and that customer is
in financial distress. There are a number of alternatives that will reduce our
exposure to the U.S. currency and open up new potential markets. We do not
have a demand or currency problem, Canada just needs to change its marketing
strategy, thus a theme of this conference is how to move product to new
markets profitably.
"Farmers are very good at adapting their business practices but the speed
of change and complexity that the industry faces means that more than ever,
outside professionals are delegated certain aspects of farm management, and
global economic forces need to be better understood to capture business
opportunities," says Liz Robertson, CAFA's Executive Director.
This interactive, one-day seminar will provide participants with the big
picture tools to begin reassessing their own options and opportunities in the
marketplace, so they can improve their business practices and their long-term
Topics covered at the seminar include the process of how to deal with and
manage change, niche market opportunities, global trade and economic
realities, and the best way to invest for future growth for a viable and
sustainable enterprise.
The day wraps up with a summary of all presentations and the overall
implications to Alberta's agricultural industry. There is time allocated after
each presentation and at the end of the day for open discussions and a
question period.
