48-hour bike marathon on behalf of Make-a-Wish / Fais-Un-Voeu Québec
MONTREAL, Sept. 18 /CNW Telbec/ - This weekend, for the second straight
year, 40 teams composed of six cyclists will set off on their bicycles to
conquer Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve for Make-a-Wish / Fais-Un-Voeu Quebec
Foundation. They will be pedaling for 48 hours, with each of the six cyclists
on the respective teams riding for four hours a day on the unique course. The
cyclists will have a sole objective in mind: to raise $180,000 during this
48-hour span to enable 25 Quebec youngsters stricken by life-threatening
illness to see their wish granted.
On Friday, September 19, the starter's signal will be given to send off
close to 250 cyclists split into teams. The goal for each of them is to raise
a minimum of $3,600. For the 48-hour event, the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve of
Parc Jean-Drapeau will take on a festive-like appearance as a safe and
protected track, a magnificent billiard-table-like surface to ride on, a flat
track in a charming setting. In a relay format, a minimum of one cyclist per
team will be riding during the two days and nights that the event lasts.
At the stroke of 1 p.m. on Sunday, September 21, the amount of money
raised during this terrific relay of hope will be announced.
"Twenty-five children will be making their wish for good health, but also
to foster the dream of meeting their idol, swimming with the dolphins or going
to Walt Disney World," remarked Jocelyne Vautour, the general manager of the
Make-a-Wish / Fais-Un-Voeu Québec Foundation. "Thus, as of Friday their
parents and friends will be riding to gather the donation pledges, and the
money that is collected should enable these wishes to be turned into reality."
