"When designers come out, Montréal, UNESCO City of Design shines bright" - An exhibition of posters with Montréal, UNESCO City of Design as a theme, featured as part of the Montréal Fashion & Design Festival

    MONTREAL, June 6 /CNW Telbec/ - Following Montréal's recent designation
as a UNESCO City of Design, Sid Lee, in association with the Bureau Design
Montréal and Sensation Mode, are pleased to present the exhibition "When
designers come out, Montréal, UNESCO, City of Design shines bright", to be
held on McGill College Avenue, June 6 to 10, as part of the Montréal Fashion &
Design Festival.
Drawing their inspiration from the designation of Montréal, UNESCO City
of Design, graphic designers of the Sid Lee Agency have developed a series of
posters depicting the city's playful or subversive angle, while highlighting
Montréal's urban décor, symbols of architecture and folk culture, which
inspire local creators. This initiative, which brings together graphic design
and fashion, is a tribute to the "Montréal UNESCO City of Design" designation.
"These posters celebrate and support the title of UNESCO City of Design
that was bestowed on Montréal, without any constraints or censorship... for
the sheer pleasure of expressing beauty and sharing a wonderful showcase on
the world," said Hélène Godin, Sid Lee art director and associate.

Montréal, UNESCO City of Design celebrates first anniversary

The UNESCO City of Design title was awarded to Montréal on June 6, 2006.
This international recognition underscores Montréal's background and its
commitment to design. It also honours talented creators in the various fields
of design.
"Montréal design and designers are a dynamic force behind cultural,
economic and social life. Our administration supports projects highlighting
creativity, know-how and quality design, which contribute to Montréal's
reputation as a city of design. The association between Sid Lee, the Bureau
Design Montréal and Sensation Mode is a fine example of experience-sharing in
areas of common interest. I acknowledge Sid Lee's spontaneity and initiative,
and wish that they will inspire other creators who help give a meaning to
UNESCO City of Design designation," said Benoit Labonté, member of the
executive committee responsible for culture, heritage, downtown and design.

"Design is the art of featuring everyday objects beyond an exercise in
style. The Montréal Fashion & Design Festival is proud to draw attention to
this means of expression, which is an indisputable cultural signature, and to
relay it in a festive spirit to the 500,000 visitors each year," said
Jean-François Daviau, co-president of Sensation Mode.
