When are kids ready to read? Can play really help a child learn? TVO's Your Voice, at tvoparents.com, explores these topics June 19 and 26, 2007

    Your Voice
Live Tuesdays at 1 pm ET at tvoparents.com

TORONTO, June 8 /CNW/ - Your Voice is TVO's exclusively online
interactive parenting show that provides EXPERT advice in REAL TIME for
parents and caregivers on how they can help their children succeed in school.
Host, journalist and mom, Cheryl Jackson, welcomes education and child
development experts to explore a range of issues that challenge parents and
their kids. Parents can send their questions directly to the experts online at
the Your Voice page at tvoparents.com, or by phone at 1.888.891.1195. They can
also connect with other parents in an online chat. In the weeks ahead, Your
Voice will tackle these topics:

    JUNE 19
    When Should Kids Read?

The Ontario curriculum expects students to be reading by Grade 2. Are all
kids capable of achieving that goal? How do you make sure your child is ready?
We get expert advice from Sidney Ledson, founder of the Sidney Ledson
Institute for Intellectual Advancement in Toronto and author of Teach Your
Child to Read in Just Ten Minutes a Day.

    JUNE 26
Play is Good for the Brain

There is so much focus on making sure children learn all they can so they
will succeed academically. But there's growing evidence that suggests students
might benefit from getting out of the classroom and into the playground. Play
can help children's development, and their ability to think and learn. We find
out more from David Elkind, a professor of child development at Tufts
University in Massachusetts and the author of several books, including The
Power of Play: How Spontaneous, Imaginative Activities Lead to Happier,
Healthier Children.
