WestJet comments on CAW remarks

CALGARY, Sept. 9 /CNW/ - WestJet comments on Canadian Auto Workers (CAW)
remarks. Media are reporting that the CAW is in preliminary stages of talks
with WestJet workers.
Captain Don Hougan, Chairman of WestJet's employee association, PACT
(Pro-Active Communication Team), and member of WestJet's Board of Directors,
commented, "We have strong employee representation through PACT's
long-standing relationship with our WestJetters. Our employees have
demonstrated that there is no need or desire for union representation. The
great success of this airline comes through our engaged and committed
workforce. At a time when economies are struggling, fuel prices are at new
highs, and airlines are downsizing, WestJet remains a worldwide success story
and continues to grow."
WestJet Executive Vice-President of People Ferio Pugliese commented,
"WestJet empowers our people to think and act like owners who have a stake in
the success of the company. Currently, more than 80 per cent of WestJetters
own shares, and in the airline's 12-year history, WestJetters have earned over
$155 million in profit share. The wealth that our employees have generated for
themselves through share appreciation is remarkable and unique in the airline
"We are one of the most successful airlines in the world due in no small
part to the award-winning relationship we have with our more than 7,300
WestJetters. Their dedication and caring are key to our exceptional guest
experience, financial success and reputation within the industry. We are proud
of their accomplishments and we thank them for what they do."
