TORONTO, May 27 /CNW/ - Wayne and Llora Weismiller of Bala will receive a
Fire Safety Award from the Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council at a
ceremony on June 3, 2009 in Toronto. The annual Fire Safety Awards recognize
outstanding contributions to fire protection and prevention in Ontario.
For more than 30 years, Wayne and Llora Weismiller have partnered with
the Township of Muskoka Lakes Fire Department to raise awareness about fire
safety in their community through financial donations, prizes and sponsorship
of fire-related initiatives. As owners of the community's Tim-BR Mart, the
Weismillers have made contributions that have seen the fire department be able
to purchase vehicle extrication equipment, water/ice rescue equipment and a
thermal imaging camera. In addition to the donation of a defibrillator, the
Weismillers contributed funds to purchase fire prevention resources for a fire
department display in their store and hosted a fundraising event that saw the
proceeds directed to the Bala Fire Station's fire prevention program.
"The generousity of Wayne and Llora has extended well beyond one or two
events," said Ontario Fire Marshal Pat Burke. "By providing support throughout
the year, the couple have demonstrated their strong commitment to fire and
life safety in the community."
Fire departments throughout the province nominated individuals and
organizations for this year's awards; 20 recipients were selected. The
Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services Rick Bartolucci and
Fire Marshal Burke will present the awards at a luncheon ceremony at the
Sutton Place Hotel in Toronto.
