MISSISSAUGA, ON, Sept. 10 /CNW/ - Wal-Mart Canada announced today that,
during its recent Canadian Red Cross fundraising campaign, Wal-Mart stores and
SAM'S CLUBs across Canada raised and contributed a record $1.4 million in cash
and in-kind donations. Funds raised and contributed will support local
disaster relief in communities across the country for Canadians in need.
Wal-Mart's Mississauga-based home office matched each store's contribution, up
to $2,000. Wal-Mart would like to thank its customers and suppliers for their
generous donations and support to such a worthy cause.
As the leading corporate sponsor of the Canadian Red Cross, Wal-Mart
stores held special events during their annual fundraising campaign, including
donations at the registers, hosting in-store charity drives and teaming up
with suppliers to raise money for the Canadian Red Cross.
The Canadian Red Cross helps people affected by emergencies and
disasters, ranging from family house fires to regional flooding and natural
disasters. The Red Cross works to provide emergency needs like food, shelter,
emotional support and family reunification. All Red Cross assistance is
provided free of charge by over 30,000 dedicated volunteers and staff across
the country and with the help of generous financial donors such as Wal-Mart
