Wal-Mart Canada sees Canadian flags flying off shelves

    Retailer sees sales of patriotic emblems spike this year

    MISSISSAUGA, ON, June 27 /CNW/ - With the most anticipated long weekend
of the year quickly approaching, Wal-Mart stores coast-to-coast are getting
set for Canada Day shoppers. Sales data suggests Canadian pride may have
reached new levels as Canadian flags are flying off shelves at a record pace
and sales of patriotic emblems - from car flags, to apparel, to camp chairs -
are higher than past years.
    "Canada Day is about celebrating the holiday while spending time with
family and friends. From food to flags to folding arm chairs, Wal-Mart makes
it easy to stock up on Canada Day gear with plenty of time left over for
outdoor activities," said Alan Blundell, divisional merchandise manager,
sporting goods.
    An online poll at www.walmart.ca revealed the majority of Canadians will
be spending the long weekend outdoors partaking in the following activities:
camping (24%), swimming (14%), fishing (4%), sunbathing (14%) and barbecuing
(44%). For Canada Day festivities, Wal-Mart has identified these must-have

    For the campers:

    For the swimmers:
