Retailer's new "Product Protection Plan" offers low-cost, worry-free
ownership of electronics
MISSISSAUGA, ON, March 17 /CNW/ - Today, Wal-Mart Canada launched its
first-ever retail product extended warranty program, offering Canadian
customers product protection with a focus on low prices. Extended warranties
are now available on more than 1,900 items, covering a wide range of
electronics including, televisions, digital cameras, MP3 players, computers,
video game consoles and more. Wal-Mart Canada's extended warranties offer a
great complement to the company's growing focus on a larger and higher quality
assortment of electronics - and its focus on price leadership.
"We've always focused on providing customers with quality products at the
lowest price and now we can further enhance our offering by protecting those
products with affordable warranties," says Trudy Fahie, Wal-Mart Canada's vice
president of financial services. "There's really a three-fold benefit:
customers get everyday low prices on their purchase, worry free ownership and
the protection they expect from an extended warranty for a low price."
For products priced at $200 or more, customers can purchase a three-year
product repair plan, including a parts and labour guarantee; power surge
protection; a no-lemon guarantee and 24-hour call-centre assistance. The plan
is transferable with the product should it be gifted or sold to another
individual. For products under $200, customers can purchase a two-year
replacement plan, offering new or refurbished products of like kind and
quality should their original product fail.
Both plans are effective immediately after purchase. Customers can call a
toll-free number, 24/7, for assistance and bring failed products to more than
2,300 service centres across Canada for repair.
Pricing of the product protection plan varies by item and retail pricing.
Each of Wal-Mart Canada's 299 stores will offer the product protection
plan beginning today.
