QUEBEC CITY, Oct. 22 /CNW Telbec/ - Mr. Marcel Blanchet, Chief Electoral
Officer of Québec, wishes to inform Québec electors who are currently staying
outside Québec, or are about to do so, that they can register effective
immediately to avail themselves of voting by mail at the time of a general
election, a by-election or a referendum.
The electors concerned by this measure are those who are temporarily away
from Québec for two years or less and who intend to return to Québec. Should
elections or a referendum be held, these electors will be able to vote by
mail, if they are registered to vote of electors outside Québec. The
registration form can be downloaded from the Institution's Web site at the
following address:
It should be noted that the two-year time limit does not apply to
electors who are posted outside Québec to a position with the Government of
Québec, the Government of Canada or an international organization referred to
in the Act. Nor does it apply to the spouse or dependents of the elector in
question, provided they are qualified electors. Electors posted outside Québec
will have to provide, in addition to the documents required, proof of posting
outside Québec.
Mr. Blanchet is counting on those persons who have relatives or friends
who have been temporarily absent from Québec for two years or less to inform
them of the possibility of voting by mail at upcoming elections and to let
them know that they can register at any time.
