2008 Rabbit and Jetta offer increased standard power; Jetta, Passat and
Touareg 2 models benefit from equipment repackaging
AJAX, ON, Aug. 28 /CNW/ - Volkswagen's 2008 product portfolio has been
fine-tuned to offer an even higher level of standard features at appealing
Following the highly successful re-launch of the Rabbit, Volkswagen has
increased engine horsepower for this year. Consequently, the 2008 Rabbit's
2.5-litre engine now produces a class-leading 170 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque
(from 150 and 170, respectively). The additional horsepower and torque
translate into a slight increase of the price. The starting price is now
$20,175 for the entry model, now called Trendline. Along with the new
injection of power, this year's Rabbit models get slightly revised equipment
packages to better suit our customers' tastes. Among them, the 16" alloy
wheels are now part of the Comfortline (formerly Convenience) package.
Also benefiting from this power increase are the 2008 Jetta 2.5 models.
The 2008 Jetta also gets new equipment packages, which will combine more
customer-relevant features. The entry-level Trendline model (previously named
Value Edition) gets new standard 16 inch wheels with wheel covers. A new
design for some of the alloy wheels, and two new exterior colours (Wheat Beige
and Laser Blue) also appear this year. The 2008 Jetta is available at
dealerships with a starting price that remains unchanged from last year at
$23,475 for the Trendline model, despite the addition of 16" wheels.
To follow the 2008 Rabbit and Jetta, the New Beetle and New Beetle
Convertible entry models are also named Trendline. Renamed packages as well as
a new design for the alloy wheels conclude the changes for these models.
This year, both the GTI and GLI models gain standard Climatronic
dual-zone automatic climate control and a new 17" alloy wheel design. The 2008
GTI pricing now starts at $29,575 and the 2008 GLI at $32,175.
The Passat line-up sees several changes this year. The entry level Passat
model is now called Trendline and, like all 2008 Passats, it benefits from
standard alloy wheels and 12-way power driver seat. Various updates to the
option packages allow customers to specify new equipment combinations: models
powered by the 2.0T engine can now be equipped with 17" alloy wheels, fog
lights, and even a newly-available dashboard wood trim. Also new this year,
the 3.6 engine is now exclusively mated to a standard 4Motion all-wheel drive
system and gains several standard features, such as a standard Sirius
satellite radio, xenon headlights with AFS, 12-way power driver seat, and
dashboard wood trim. Available on all Passat models this year is a new colour,
called Mocha Brown, which replaces Granite Green. Completely repackaged, the
2008 Passats have now started to arrive at dealerships with pricing starting
at $30,975 for the sedan and $32,475 for the wagon.
The all-new-for-2007 Eos convertible has been a runaway success in the
media as well as with customers. This revolutionary five-panel roof transforms
a hardtop coupe with an integrated sunroof into an open convertible. The 2008
version has the following changes: the entry model is now called Trendline and
the Comfortline package replaces the Sport Leather package but adds Sirius
Satellite radio. The 2008 Eos has already arrived at dealerships and is
offered at a starting price of $37,175.
The 2008 Touareg "2" continues the legacy of the original, multi-talented
Touareg. And, with over 2,300 new parts, it now features a new face that
incorporates the corporate "shield" grille, distinctive headlamps as well as
new wheels and colors. In addition, the interior has been refined with new
visual and ergonomic designs.
The standard engine is a 280 HP 3.6 litre 6 cylinder, and the 350 HP 4.2
litre V8 engine is optional. Both power plants feature FSI direct-injection
and are mated exclusively to a 6-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic
and 4XMotion all-wheel drive, via a transfer case with switch-enabled extra
low off-road gearing.
The 2008 Touareg 2 has been available for sale in Canada since July at a
new entry price of $49,975 for the V6. The vehicle is now $1,500 less than the
base 2007 model, and has been repackaged to offer an even more competitive and
appealing product to Canadian consumers.
