VisionTV invites Canadian producers to submit dramedy series proposals

    TORONTO, May 19 /CNW/ - VisionTV, Canada's multi-faith and multicultural
television network, is inviting Canadian independent producers to submit
proposals for an original half-hour comedy-drama series to be broadcast in
fall 2010.
The deadline for submissions is June 15, 2009.
VisionTV is seeking to commission a series of between six and 13
episodes. The proposed series must reflect Canada's cultural diversity, and
appeal to VisionTV's core demographic of female-skewing viewers aged 50-plus.
The proposed budget range is $200,000 to $300,000 per episode. VisionTV
hopes to see principal photography wrapped by the end of March 2010, with a
view to broadcasting the completed series in the fall of that year.
The call for proposals also emphasizes the need for a Web-based
interactive component that includes the streaming of full episodes online.

Added Joan Jenkinson, S-VOX Director of Independent Production: "The
experience of developing SOUL deepened our appreciation for the wealth of
independent production talent in this country, and proved to us that it is
possible to create high-quality Canadian drama programming on a modest budget.
We are excited about this new initiative and look forward to receiving some
innovative and imaginative submissions."
