As Beijing 2008 winds down, Canada's tourism marketers are getting ready
to make the most of tourism opportunities surrounding the Vancouver 2010
Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. To learn from the past, staff at the
Canadian Tourism Commission reviewed Calgary 1988 Winter Games highlights
including Michael "Eddie the Eagle" Edwards soaring through the air, or the
wild crash of the Jamaican Bobsleigh team. To mark this year's 20th
anniversary of the 1988 Winter Games, Eddie the Eagle and Devon Harris of the
Jamaican team returned to Canada's Olympic Park in Calgary as tourists and
ripped down the zip lines now supported by the ski jump towers and reflected
on their Canadian experiences. In Montreal, the 1976 Velodrome is now a lush
Biodôme featuring North American ecosystems and housing over 5,000 animals.
The Biodôme is now one of the most popular visitor attractions in Quebec.
Michele McKenzie, President & CEO of the Canadian Tourism Commission comments
on what Canada can learn from China on how to tell the world about your
country and culture.
