MONTREAL, June 3 /CNW/ - The results are in and VIA Rail Canada is proud
to announce it has received excellent ratings in the 2008 National Corporate
Reputation Study conducted by Leger Marketing, climbing a full eight positions
in the top 100 companies in Canada.
VIA Rail ranked 35th among the top 100 companies in Canada climbing from
last year's 43rd place. Additionally, VIA's overall reputation score improved
by two percentage points. Compared to competitors in the transportation
sector, VIA finished just behind 29th-ranked WestJet, and well ahead of Air
Canada that fell to 83rd in this year's survey.
"We are extremely proud and very encouraged by our improved score," said
Paul Côté, VIA's president and Chief Executive Officer. "These results are
testament to the hard work being done by all VIA employees within the
organization, and of our commitment to customer focus and service excellence."
When compared to other carriers in the transportation sector, respondents
most commonly cited VIA's prices, customer service, and personal preference
for train travel as reasons for their high ranking. Additionally, respondents'
perceptions of how clients are treated and trustworthy management practices
factored in to the final scoring. VIA's advertising was also selected over
those of some of its competitors.
The study also showed Canadians have a strong awareness of VIA Rail (71%)
and that the organization ranked highly (73%) for its attitude towards safety.
