AJAX, ON, Jan. 19 /CNW/ - Veridian customers in and around the community
of Greenwood in northeast Pickering have been without power since late
afternoon after Veridian emergency response staff discovered a body in a
utility substation. It is not known at this time when power will be restored.
Veridian emergency staff was dispatched to investigate a power outage in
the area at about 3:30 p.m. They arrived at the substation shortly after 4
p.m. and found that an individual had entered the fenced and locked substation
compound, and then made contact with high voltage electrical equipment.
The police investigation is ongoing. Power to affected customers will be
restored as quickly as possible following completion of the investigation.
