University of Toronto, Scarborough Campus Associate Professor Wins Top Teaching Award

    TORONTO, Sept. 1 /CNW/ - University of Toronto Associate Professor of
Biology Clare Hasenkampf has been named one of Ontario's most outstanding
university by the Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations
(OCUFA). Dr. Hasenkampf, who is a "passionate champion of undergraduate
education and the student experience", will receive a 2008-2009 OCUFA teaching
award at an October 3, 2009 ceremony in Toronto. "OCUFA's Awards Committees
was impressed with Dr. Hasenkampf's dedication to teaching," said OCUFA
President Mark Langer. "She is the director of the Centre for Teaching and
Learning at the University of Toronto, Scarborough Campus, has attended
numerous teaching related workshops and conferences, and is also an active
member of professional teaching societies. She is a provincial leader in
improving and promoting high quality teaching at Ontario's universities."
    The five other teaching award recipients are: Associate Professor Nick
Bontis from the DeGroote School of Business at McMaster University; Associate
Professor of Social Work Sheila Sammon from McMaster University; Law Professor
Lorne Sosin from the University of Toronto; Professor of Mechanical and
Mechatronics Gordon Stubley from the University of Waterloo; and Assistant
Professor of Earth Science Cameron Tsujita from the University of Western

    Founded in 1968, OCUFA represents 15,000 faculty and academic librarians
at 24 institutions across Ontario. OCUFA has been celebrating outstanding
achievement in teaching and academic librarianship at Ontario universities
since 1973. The awards committee selects up to six teaching award recipients
and one academic librarianship award recipient each year.
