Université Laval crowned champion at the 2008 Jeux du Commerce TD Meloche Monnex

    MONTREAL, Jan. 7 /CNW Telbec/ - The Université Laval delegation took the
honours at the 2008 Jeux du Commerce TD Meloche Monnex, one of Canada's
largest interuniversity competitions. Now in its 20th year, the competition
took place last January 4 to 6 at Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières
(UQTR). A total of six business students from Université Laval achieved two
first places in the 15 academic cases (International Management and
Marketing). They also won first place for the Participation Award and the
Committee of the Year Award.
    Once again this year, the Jeux du Commerce held under the theme
"Innovation, la solution," received generous support from the business
community. TD Meloche Monnex, Canada's leading home and auto insurer for
professionals, alumni and students, acted as main partner of the event for the
second year in a row. Lyne Vaillancourt, vice president, affinity market group
at TD Meloche Monnex, was honorary president of the competition.
    Upwards of 1,400 participants, including volunteers, judges and students
from 13 French and English universities in eastern Canada (Quebec, Ontario and
New Brunswick), took part in the 2008 Jeux du Commerce TD Meloche Monnex. For
two days, the students squared off against each other in academic cases, a
stock simulation, an oral debate and athletic events. The Jeux du Commerce
also involved a community component.
    The winners were announced at the closing gala on Sunday, January 6, 2008
at the Centre Sportif Alphonse-Desjardins in Trois-Rivières. Altogether,
21 awards were distributed to participants.

    At the Jeux du Commerce, the top business students from 13 participating
universities took the full measure of their potential as they faced off in
cases based on actual situations. The event was also a gathering of peers and
a source of network and relationship building. For TD Meloche Monnex, the
games were another opportunity to showcase its commitment to the student
community and encourage self-development among students.
