Unity Project celebrates renovations

LONDON, ON, June 25 /CNW/ - Representatives from the Unity Project for
Homelessness in London (Unity Project), Federal, Provincial, Municipal,
foundation and organized labour contributors joined today to celebrate the
completion of renovations of our 10-unit transitional housing complex and our
43-bed shelter.
"We are grateful for all the generous contributions and support
received," said Charlene "Chuck" Lazenby, General Manager and founding member
of the Unity Project. "You have helped us transition our facility into a
community for men and women seeking shelter."
Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation's (CMHC) Shelter Enhancement
Program provided the majority of the financial assistance for core system
renovations. CMHC worked with the Unity Project to identify, plan and complete
the repair, rehabilitation and improvement project. The City of London and the
Canadian Autoworkers Social Justice Fund contributed to put a new roof on the
Dundas Street Unity house building. Arcangelo Rea Family Foundation supported
the transformation of interior renovations, while The Ontario Trillium
Foundation is honoured with supporting our capacity to make all of these
engagements possible.

The Unity Project provides men and women with emergency shelter and
transitional housing and supports self-help in a safe, secular and home-like
environment. Open and accessible 24/7, frontline support staff work with each
resident to advance a personal action plan for stability and independence.
Core values of mutual respect, interdependence, cooperation and compassion
guide operations and everyday practice to empower resident to take care of
themselves, each other and their community.
