Uniboard is reviewing the judgment rendered in the case of the Wood Producers' Syndicate interlocutory injunction

SAYABEC, QC, Aug. 23 /CNW Telbec/ - Uniboard Canada Inc. (Uniboard) is
currently reviewing the judgment rendered by the Québec Superior Court on the
motion for an interlocutory injunction filed by the Syndicat des producteurs
de bois du Bas Saint-Laurent et de la Gaspésie's against the Company's Sayabec
manufacturing plant. Uniboard intends to abide by the court's orders, however,
subject to the rights it could exercise in order to contest the judgment.
Uniboard deplores the lack of effort expended by the Syndicate during its
negotiations with Uniboard to renew their agreement, as well as the means
being used by the Syndicate to force Uniboard's hand in their dealings. It
cannot be forgotten that the issue at the heart of the debate between Uniboard
and the Syndicate is not that Uniboard refuses to buy wood from the
Syndicates, but rather that the Syndicate refuses to sell under reasonable
market conditions. Within the current crisis-ridden context which faces the
forest industry as a whole, Uniboard must act in order to maintain its
competitiveness in its market and to continue to offer choice employment in
its manufacturing plants to the people in this outlaying region.
According to Uniboard's President and Chief Executive Officer,
Mr. Jean Bélanger, the company's position remains unchanged. "We are an
important actor in the region and have invested important sums of money in
order to restart our line 1 in 2006. It is deplorable that the Syndicates
representing the wood producers of the region do not wish to work with us by
offering raw materials at a price which reflects market rates. Until recently,
many manufacturing plants have closed and we are fighting for the survival of
the Sayabec plant; we will take all the means necessary to succeed," affirms
Mr. Bélanger.
