Unable to Vote in Person at Advance Polls or on Election Day?

St. Paul's Electors May Apply to Vote by Proxy

TORONTO, Aug. 24 /CNW/ - Eligible electors in the September 17
by-election in the Electoral District of St. Paul's who are unable to cast
their ballot in person on Election Day or at an advance poll may apply to vote
by proxy. Proxy voting allows voters to appoint another elector residing in
their electoral district to vote on their behalf.
Electors who ceased to live in Ontario within the two years prior to the
Election Day and whose last residence was in the Electoral District of St.
Paul's may be entitled to vote under certain conditions. Contact Elections
Ontario for more information.
To receive a Certificate to Vote on behalf of the elector appointing the
proxy, the proxy voter must bring the application, along with appropriate
identification, to the local Returning Office before 8:00 p.m. on September 16
- the day before the by-election. The proxy voter must then provide proof of
identity at the poll and present the Certificate to Vote to receive a ballot
for the elector on whose behalf they are voting. An elector may not act as a
proxy voter for more than two electors.
A proxy voter may apply to have his or her name transferred to the poll
where the proxy vote is to be cast or, in turn, to transfer the name of the
voter appointing the proxy to their own poll.
Applications to vote by proxy can be obtained from the St. Paul's
returning office or downloaded from the Elections Ontario website at

To be eligible to vote, on Election Day, September 17, 2009, a person
    must be:
    - 18 years of age or older, and
    - a Canadian citizen, and
