Ultra Electronics delivers 1,000th tactical communication system to US armed forces

MONTREAL, Oct. 28 /CNW Telbec/ - In the presence of David Wilkins,
American ambassador to Canada, and government and military representatives,
Ultra Electronics today delivered its 1,000th latest generation tactical
communication system to the US armed forces.
This tactical communication system AN/GRC-245A (High Capacity Line of
Sight (HCLOS)), is like those currently used by troops in Afghanistan and
Iraq. These systems allow sensitive data to be sent and received, in both
video and voice format, between command posts and field units.
"The U.S. Army has enjoyed a partnership with Ultra Electronics for forty
years. The expertise and technology developed by this Montreal-based company
has served our brave men and women in uniform well," said Mr. Wilkins.
Ultra Electronics is obliged to do business outside the country because
of the size of the Canadian market. To deal with consolidation in the defence
industry and compete with other firms that receive extensive support from
their respective governments and national markets, we rely on R&D and
innovation as our keys to success," explained Iwan Jemczyk, president of Ultra
Electronics, Tactical Communication Systems.
To date, Ultra Electronics has delivered more than 25,000
channel-switching tactical radios to 33 government organizations and systems
integrators, which represent 70% of global demand for this type of product.
Ultra Electronics is the world's largest supplier of tactical radios and also
supplies Canada's Armed Forces.
