TVO invites submissions to the Allan King Film Festival contest: deadline February 27 2009

    What are you passionate about? Send your original 5-minute documentary
    for a chance to have legendary filmmaker Allan King look at your work,
    and have your documentary air on TVO.

    TORONTO, Feb. 6 /CNW/ - TVO is offering aspiring or seasoned documentary
filmmakers and students an unprecedented opportunity: to enter their original
documentary - no longer than 5 minutes - into the Allan King Film Festival
contest, and through it, have legendary filmmaker Allan King look at their
work. The winning doc airs on TVO.
    What are you most passionate about? What issues perplex you? Allan King
has tackled challenging topics about the human experience, such as marriage
conflict, emotionally disturbed children, and dying with dignity. TVO and
Allan King challenge and invite you to follow in the same tradition. Have your

    Now through the contest deadline of Friday February 27 2009 at 4 pm, TVO
invites you to submit a film or video that is:
    -   no longer than 5 minutes
    -   about a topic that speaks to an issue that interests you
    -   an original documentary created for this contest or for a university
        course in the 2008-09 school year

    A shortlist of films will be chosen by a jury that includes Allan King
and shown on You, the online voters, have your say between March 16
and March 27 2009. The winning film will be broadcast on television, during
TVO's Allan King Film Festival, a retrospective of King's work, April 26 to
May 1 2009.
    In addition to an airing of the documentary on TVO, the winner will also
receive an industry pass to Hot Docs 2009.
    One of Canada's leading filmmakers, Allan King pioneered the techniques
of cinéma-vérité and "actuality drama." King's renowned and controversial
films explore the often painful, but sometimes amusing psychological and
sociological aspects of the human experience.
