TORONTO, March 16 /CNW/ - Transport 2000 Ontario heartily endorses the
TTC $6-billion plan for a light rail network.
"TTC has got it right," Dan Hammond, president of the transit advocacy
"Long light rail routes requiring few transfers are more attractive to
commuters and will get more drivers to leave their cars at home. And the route
choices are right on. The Waterfront West, Scarborough, Eglinton, Finch, Jane
and Don Mills corridors can accommodate dedicated streetcar right-of-ways,"
Transport 2000 Ontario's only reservation, at this point,is the plan for
the Sheppard Avenue corridor which would require passengers to transfer.
Senior levels of government should fund this project by diverting money
from sprawl inducing highway projects.
