Truckers' union clarifies that strike vote affecting truckers at Vancouver involves only two companies - Port-Team Transport and Pacific Transportation Group

VANCOUVER, April 28 /CNW/ - The union representing truck owner-operators
serving the Vancouver Port Authority is today clarifying that a strike vote
taken by its members only affects 140 truck owner-operators at two
transportation companies - Pacific Transportation Group and Port-Team
VCTA-CAW Local 2006 representative Steve Sutherland said Tuesday that
while four of the largest trucking companies at the Port have ratified new
collective agreements with the union, Pacific Transportation Group and
Port-Team Transport have so far refused to negotiate a contract with the
"VCTA-CAW Local 2006 is very pleased with the progress we have made with
transportation employers to ensure the Vancouver Port Authority and its
customers can count on reliable and efficient trucking services," said
"Unfortunately two companies - Pacific Transportation Group and Port-Team
Transport - have not come to the bargaining table prepared to negotiate the
same terms as other trucking firms," said Sutherland.
"The one thing that our members are clear on is that we will not permit
any company to undercut others serving the Port - that would cause unfair
competition for trucking firms and unfair rates for one group of truckers,
creating an unstable situation once again at the Port," said Paul Johal
President VCTA-CAW Local 2006.
"Consequently, if we are forced to take any job action it will be
directed only at those two companies until we reach a collective agreement,
not at other trucking firms who have already signed contracts with VCTA-CAW
Local 2006," Johal said.
