Fourth annual cycling adventure expected to raise record funds for
children's cancer camps in Ontario
TORONTO, Aug. 13 /CNW/ - Hundreds of cyclists will once again be pedaling
through cottage country this summer in the fourth annual Tour For Kids event -
on their way to raising much needed funds for children's cancer camps in
Ontario. The four-day, 800-km bike tour - themed "Ride Somewhere Meaningful" -
will circle Ontario cottage country, linking up with Ontario summer camps for
children with cancer. This year, the event is expected to raise $1 million,
increasing by a third the $750,000 raised in last year's effort.
Based on the founding principles and volunteer model of the Tour For Kids
event, and the generous support of our corporate sponsors, 100 percent of the
donations raised go directly to Camp Trillium, Camp Quality and Camp Oochigeas
to help send children to camp and provide the required support and treatments
during their stay. Riders will raise funds through pledges and will have the
opportunity to dedicate their ride to a child or loved one who has been
impacted by cancer.
Investors Group continues to support Tour For Kids as Presenting Sponsor,
helping fund the operation of the event, while raising additional funds and
building awareness for the camps.
"Our involvement in Tour For Kids has been a tremendous experience," said
Lesley Brown, Ontario Vice-President of Investors Group. "Tour For Kids helps
us to further our deep commitment to community support in a tangible way, and
allows our Consultants and employees to get involved as riders, fund-raisers
and volunteers. What better way to spend a weekend than helping children with
cancer to enjoy a summer camp experience? We're looking forward to another

In Canada, approximately 1,400 children are diagnosed with cancer
annually and another 10,000 are already living with cancer or its long-term
effects. Childhood cancer is the leading cause of non-accidental death in
Canada, and while cure rates are improving, the overall incidence of cancer in
children is increasing due to environmental and other factors. Tour For Kids,
a part of the Coast to Coast Against Cancer Foundation, is focused on funding
programs that fill an important gap in the care and treatment of children and
their families impacted by cancer, bringing together like-minded individuals
and organizations to build national standards of care and funding in areas
typically overlooked by other charities.
"With over $1.6 million raised to date and the establishment of Coast to
Coast Against Cancer as a charitable foundation, I'm more optimistic than ever
that we can continue to make a difference in the lives of children who are
dealing with cancer," said Jeff Rushton, founder of Tour For Kids and Coast to
Coast Against Cancer.
