Tory will bring jobs back to Northern Ontario

    THUNDER BAY, ON, Sept. 29 /CNW/ - Ontario PC Leader John Tory laid out a
focused plan to strengthen the Northern economy and return quality jobs to the

through a five point strategy, called N.O.R.T.H. NORTH stands for natural
resources, opportunities, roads, technology and higher education. The plan

    -   Encourage innovation, partnership and investment in Ontario's
        forestry sector while reducing the regulatory burden on our forestry
        companies, without sacrificing standards;
    -   Provide a safe, reliable, and affordable energy supply, and partner
        with the forestry sector to develop modern, 21st century
        opportunities for the industry;
    -   Move 10% of Ontario government offices from Toronto to northern and
        rural areas;
    -   Roll back Dalton McGuinty's diamond mine tax grab;
    -   Re-focus the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund by investing $60 million
        a year exclusively into projects that will create long term, well
        paying jobs;
    -   Work with the federal government to coordinate the actions of FedNor
        and the NOHFC to maximize the ability of these two agencies to
        attract business and companies to Northern Ontario;
    -   Invest in the roads and infrastructure businesses and residents
        depend on;
    -   Create a $100 million Northern Research and Development Fund for our
        northern universities and colleges;
    -   Bring greater high speed internet access to Northern Ontario.

    "It is time for a Premier and a government that will invest in the people
and priorities of Northern Ontario - and invest in the future of Northern
Ontario," Tory said.
