Tory Double Talk on the Environment

Ontarians deserve decisive green actions, not a return to damage, cuts
    and neglect

QUEEN'S PARK, April 16 /CNW/ - While John Tory is downtown speaking his
double talk to the Ontario Environment Industry Association (ONEIA), Deputy
Premier George Smitherman is reminding Ontarians to look at his actions, not
empty speeches, when it comes to the environment.
"John Tory is really good at saying one thing in urban Ontario and
singing a different tune to rural Ontarians," stated Smitherman. "The
Conservatives are the party of Walkerton and the party of environmental cuts
and neglect. Under John Tory the Conservatives repeatedly refuse to take a
firm stand on our environment. Instead they're racing backwards with Randy
Hillier, a poster boy for those who oppose a cleaner greener future for
Despite what he says today, we know the real story when it comes to the
Tories and the environment.

    - Opposed measures to protect our air and water like the Clean Water
Act, the Spills Bill and the Greenbelt
    - Opposed to the subway expansion that will help get cars off the road

And we can't forget their record of damage, cuts and neglect; according to
the report from the Walkerton Inquiry they:

    - Cut funding for the MOE by over $200 million
    - Cut 750 Ministry of Environment employees

The McGuinty Liberals are cleaning up the air we breathe and the water we
drink. John Tory and the Conservative party will take us back to the days of
cuts, damage and neglect.
