With more than 2.7 million readers in the course of a week, the
Toronto Star is Canada's most read newspaper.
TORONTO, March 23 /CNW/ - The latest Newspaper Audience Databank
(NADbank) study, which measured NADbank 2006 print readership results in
Toronto, was released this morning. The results confirm that the Toronto Star
maintained its leading readership position, with approximately 50% of the
adult population in the Toronto Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) reading the
Toronto Star in the past week.
This study indicates the Toronto Star has actually strengthened its
position in the marketplace; the Monday to Friday cumulative reach for the
Toronto Star is 1,738,800 readers, up from 1,705,300 readers for the same
period one year ago. This represents a significant lead over its closest
competitor, the Toronto Sun, who reached just over 1 million readers during
the same period. In addition, with 1,290,600 readers, the Saturday Star
provides three times the reach on Saturday as The Globe and Mail, which has
395,900 readers. In fact, the Saturday Star alone, reaches more readers than
any of the other newspapers reach over a seven-day period.
"We are pleased that our commitment to quality journalism and our desire
to meet the needs of our readers has resulted in improving our overall
readership position in the GTA", said Sandy MacLeod, Vice President of
Consumer Marketing and Strategy, Toronto Star.
Net weekly reach of the Toronto Star's website, thestar.com, has
increased by 7.5% year over year to 517,700, making it the number one
newspaper website destination in the Toronto market.
"We are proud of the outstanding performance of thestar.com. This result,
coupled with recent trends, demonstrate the power of the Toronto Star in both
print and online", continued Mr. MacLeod. "Winning in the digital space is a
strategic imperative for us as it is a critical building block for the next
phase of our growth."
