Osteoporosis Canada hosts foodie extravaganza at Steam Whistle Brewery
TORONTO, Oct. 16 /CNW/ - On Friday, October 24th, five top Toronto chefs
will cook with calcium and more at Osteoporosis Canada's annual culinary
event: the Bone Appétit Chef Challenge. Held at Toronto's trendy Steam Whistle
Brewery, the event will feature renowned chefs running a gourmet cooking
demonstration as well as samples of a "bone-friendly" dish for epicurean
The event is hosted by five chefs from acclaimed establishments around
the GTA: Massimo Capra of Mistura and Sopra; David Adjey (previously of
Nectar); Corbin Tomaszeski of Holt's Cafe; and Brad Long (previously chef at
the Air Canada Centre). All chefs routinely appear on the highly acclaimed
television show Restaurant Makeover; defending champion Jan-Willem Stulp comes
from the Vineland Estates Winery.
With more than 500,000 Ontarians diagnosed with osteoporosis - 1 in 4
women and at least 1 in 8 men over 50 - the event raises much needed awareness
about nutrition and bone health for young and old alike.
"Reducing the risk of osteoporosis with proper nutrition and exercise
should begin early in life, though it's never too late to start," says Julie
Foley, President and CEO of Osteoporosis Canada. "The Bone Appétit Chef
Challenge is a great ways to help adults of all ages learn how easy it is to
cook and eat with your bones in mind, while enjoying exceptional food and
great entertainment from our wonderful chefs."
The Chef Challenge raises funds for Osteoporosis Canada in order to
promote awareness about osteoporosis, educate the public and health care
professionals, and support local self-help groups nation-wide.
In addition to the chefs' preparations, guests will enjoy tasty samples
from an oyster bar, a cheese & wine station and even a café featuring desserts
and cappuccinos a-plenty. Tickets are $85 each, available online at
www.osteoporosis.ca or by calling 416-696-2663 x 226. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
