Toronto All-Stars win Red Bull Music Academy World Tour - Culture Clash presented by the 5th annual Manifesto Festival of Community & Culture

The city came together to witness a legendary clash of musical genius

TORONTO, Sept. 23, 2011 /CNW/ - Red Bull Music Academy World Tour - Culture Clash made its official Canadian debut in Toronto at Molson Amphitheatre. Four DJ crews hailing from Glasgow, London, Montreal, New York and Toronto gathered under one roof on four different sound systems to create a collision of musical brilliance.  Internationally respected collectives such as Zulu Nation featuring DJ Afrika Bambaataa; LuckyMe featuring Hudson Mohawke, Lunice, Rustie, and Just Blaze.  Mad Decent featuring Dillon Francis, DJ Sega, South Rakkas Crew, Paul Devro and Skerrit Bwoy; and Toronto All-Stars featuring Starting from Scratch, DJ Mensa, Lissa Monet & Lindo P ignited a crowd of thousands as they threw down their best tracks in a series of four rounds.  Hosted by Toronto's own Kardinal Offishall, fans became judge and jury to decide the night's reigning champion.

Full of swag and body pumping samples LuckyMe started off the night with crowd-pleasing jams.  Zulu Nation featuring DJ Afrika Bambaataa took it back to the early days of Hip Hop, which earned him the title of "Father of the Electro-Funk Sound".  The Mad Decent stage stirred fans as they danced from Mamboton to Hip Hop.   But it was Toronto All-Stars that not only pumped up their hometown crowd but brought an a-list of special performances which included K-OS, Skratch Bastid, Michie Mee and Canadian Beat-Box champion Terry Im making them crowd favourite and champions of the night.

The evening kicked off with a 15-minute warm up set at each stage. Each collective was given four rounds of 15-minutes to please the crowd.  The first "selection round," where collectives were judged based on music selection; the second the "entertainment round" where each collective brought a special guest to their stage. The third challenged each collective to stray from their norm and play a different genre of music on their sound system. The fourth and final round was the "banger round," where each stage pulled out their biggest and baddest tunes to win over the crowd once and for all.
