TORONTO, Oct. 5 /CNW/ - Toronto's Jewish community will hold an all party
political forum on Sunday, October 5th , 7:30 pm at Shaarei Shomayim Synagogue
(470 Glencairn). The non-partisan event, will cover issues of concern to the
Jewish community before the federal election on October 14.
Confirmed candidates include Conservative MP Jason Kenney, Secretary of
State (Multiculturalism and Canadian Identity), Liberal MP Joe Volpe, NDP
candidate Susan Wallace, and Rosemary Frei, Green party candidate. The forum
will be moderated by CTV news reporter Naomi Parness.
Sponsored by UJA Federation of Greater Toronto, CJPAC (Canadian Jewish
Political Affairs Committee), Canadian Jewish Congress Ontario Region and the
Canada Israel Committee (CIC), the forum is part of a broad campaign to ensure
that the Jewish community engages in the election process.
As part of the community wide effort, UJA Federation is currently
undertaking a telephone campaign targeting 25,000 Jewish households to
encourage community members to vote for the candidate of their choice in
advance polls as an alternative to election day, which falls on the Jewish
holiday of Sukkot.
