        TIME: 9:15 am.
PLACE: 588 Queen Street West. St Christopher House

                   (Entrance on Bathurst)

The Recession Relief Coalition will release a Bulletin with current
statistics and stories outlining the impact of this severe recession on people
and community organizations and the failure of our social safety net to
support people's urgent needs, leading to greater service demands on the
non-profit sector. Speakers will connect the facts and the stories focussing
on who is affected and how, and the impact on people and communities. The
recession, combined with a social safety net that is full of gaping holes, is
continuing to throw hundreds of thousands of people across the country into
states of crisis, and yet the government is not taking action to address the
realities. The Recession Relief Coalition will outline solutions for
government action to improve the social safety net to prevent people from
falling into poverty and being trapped in this cycle.
Speakers: John Stapleton (Recession Relief Coalition, Metcalf
Foundation); Winnie Ng (Co-Chair, Good Jobs for All Coalition), Laurie
Campbell (Executive Director of Credit Canada); Michael Oliphant (Daily Bread
Food Bank) and Mike Creek (Coordinator Voices from the Street). People
attending this event will include community based agencies and people affected
by the recession.

The Recession Relief Coalition is a Toronto based national coalition of
more than 260 organizations across the country concerned about the recession's
impact on Canada's most vulnerable people. We are working with community
groups and organizations to monitor the impact of the recession and call for
action and solutions and will be promoting the replication of this work in
other communities across Canada.
