- Brian May says he has "a different feeling" about Idol after
work-shopping with Top 7 -
TORONTO, Aug. 2 /CNW/ - Queen's Brian May and Roger Taylor performed live
at Toronto's Canon Theatre last night as the special guests for next week's
"We Will Rock You" themed episodes on Canadian Idol. The pair was joined on
the stage of the hit musical by the Top 7 Canadian Idol competitors as well as
the entire cast of "We Will Rock You" for the show-stopping encore.
The blistering performance came after a day of workshops which saw May
and Taylor mentor each of the seven remaining Canadian Idol finalists in
advance of next Monday's performance episode, airing August 6 at 9 p.m. ET/PT
"Roger and I were both surprised," said May last night. "They're
wonderful artists, all seven of them. I actually have to tell you that I have
a different feeling about the Idol thing after this. Perhaps things are
evolving more (on Canadian Idol) towards the singer/songwriters and the really
talented people who really should be on TV. God bless them."

Yesterday, each of the Top 7 competitors rehearsed with the "We Will Rock
You" band on the set of the musical and received pointers from May and Taylor.
On Monday, the Canadian Idol Top 7 will perform the following Queen hits:
"We Are the Champions"
"Tie Your Mother Down"
"Too Much Love Will Kill You"
"I Want to Break Free"
Last night, the Top 7 watched "We Will Rock You" from box seats at the
Canon Theatre. The musical features three former Canadian Idol competitors,
Erica Peck (Scaramouche), Danny Balkwill (Burton) and Kelly-Ann Evans
(Ensemble). At the end of the show, the Top 7 joined May, Taylor and the cast
on stage for the encore. After May and Taylor performed "Bohemian Rhapsody"
with the company, the Top 7 joined in for "The Show Must Go On."
The performance will be seen on Tuesday's results episode, airing
August 7 at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT on CTV. The show will also feature the Top 7
performing a medley of Queen hits with "We Will Rock You" star Yvan Pedneault.
"We Will Rock You" is the smash hit musical by Queen and Writer/Director
Ben Elton. Set 300 years in the future, in a time when live music is banned on
earth, "We Will Rock You" is about the rebellious Bohemians fighting against
the all-powerful Globalsoft Corporation that controls their lives and music.
Featuring the music of Queen, "We Will Rock You" showcases an
electrifying Canadian company, including Yvan Pedneault as Galileo and Erica
Peck as Scaramouche. "We Will Rock You" is currently on stage at Toronto's
Canon Theatre and is booking until September 30, 2007. Go to www.mirvish.com
